Female Orc Asherath (9th level favor, War, Planning, Knowledge domains) Priest, upon reaching character level five is no longer able to cast non-domain spells above the first level without being told it needs a spellbook. Domain spells are still castable, leveling to six did not make a difference, and there is a save available on request.

Update on this -- I\'ve now had a similarly leveled Abjuror run into the same thing, even though the needed spellbooks were actually in the inventory. Both the Abjuror and the priest are Asherath worshippers and heavy on the autobuffs, and thus totally shut down when this bug kicked in... it\'s making my casters sad. As before, there\'s a save available.

I\'d like to see that save, if you could -- I\'m having
trouble figuring this one out. Attempts to duplicate it
in wizard mode have failed, so far.

I wince -- just deleted the old saves a few moments after noticing the new version was up. I\'ll run a few similar builds up to the point it was happening within a day or so, though, and see if it repeats in the 0.6.1.

Okay, update. I\'ve seen after saves of this, and they offered
some insight, but not enough to fix. What I really need is a
BEFORE save when everything is fine along with a set of steps
that will bring about this condition.

If anyone can get me this, please send e-mail (for this specific
issue /only/) to my personal account (jmensch@shaw.ca), and I\'ll
fix it ASAP even if I\'m on hiatus from Incursion at the moment.

This completely arbitrary bug utterly wrecks mid-t-high level
characters aand defeats AutoSave, so I want to solve it as soon
as possible.

AFAICT Weavecrafters suddenly losing the ability to control
their teleports is also a function of this bug, so a before-
save of that would be great too.

Aargh, I just had a promising lvl4 going on 5 Arcanist suddenly loose his spellcasting ability. Looking through my hefty number of backups I didn\'t have a recent manual backup that was lass than a few hours before!
Looking at the chances of someone having a useful backup & knowing how it happened I have to say it does not look likely this will be found any time soon (i.e before the end of the hiatus).
Have you considered creating a version of Incursion (after the hiatus obviously ;P) where it looks at the \'Display character\' screen spell \'L\'earning feedback after every keypress (& or set number of timesegments) and if it get a non-standard response (i.e. \'You have casting ability but no class spell list. This is a bug or oversight in class design\' or \'There are no remaining unlearned spells on your class spell list (or lists) that you have open slots for\') and copies your last unaffected save, a new autosave & your message history (at least since the last autosave) to a new \'bug save\' directory? I know this would take some work but it should hopefully get to the bottom of this (& as you said arbitrary) bug in a reasonably quick manner.
This would also have the bonus of allowing the player to use that last unaffected autosave to continue ;)

\"Have you considered creating a version of Incursion where it looks at the \'Display character\' screen spell \'L\'earning feedback after every keypress...\"

This is a good idea and I will code it up in Feburary.

One note about this release. I added a trap for the
"lose spell list" issue (#434 in the bug database) that
brings up a message box saying "contact the developer
immediately" as soon as a character lost their class
spell list. This is, in general, good, and will hopefully
help me resolve the issue soon.

However, there is one issue where a character actually
is meant to lose their class spell list -- when a paladin
falls, they lose their spells. If you're playing a
straight paladin and get this "contact developer ASAP"
message, don't bother reporting it, as it's a false
positive. Just FYI.

This also means that a paladin can't fall in the
current Incursion release -- you'll just get the message
and be able to restore a save from a few moves before
you fell. I will fix this in the next release, which
won't be for a month or more, since I'm recoding the
Encounter Gen.

I have a savefile which seems to crash on this error everytime I try to use the stairs, although I think I still do have my spellcasting ability, does it belong to this category and should I upload a save file?
