I have a lizardman paladin of Kysul that upon reaching favor level 1 developed an extreme phobia of descending stairs. I can make it to dungeon level 3 by climbing down chasms and jumping through trapdoors, but I'm now stuck and unable to progress further. When I press > I receive the message "Overcome with an inexplicable alien dread, you find yourself unable to descend." Unless I'm missing something, this prevents you from beating the game.

Two issues here:
The first is simply "why does gaining favor with Kysul apparently leave me unable to descend staircases?"
The second is "why is a paladin subject to this fear of staircases?"

Attached is the affected savegame. Using wizard mode, I managed to replicate with another paladin as well as a human rogue.

(please note version used was 0.6.9I. Message in Google group claims this was fixed in 0.6.9H4)

I have this happening with a level 4 kobold warrior. For some reason I can't get past level 2. I can move between level 1 and 2.

This problem disappeared when I switched my desired alignment from lawful good to chaotic evil and randomly attacked some innocents until I was no longer perfectly lawful good.
I am now slightly lawful good and getting back on Kysul's good side.

I had this happen to me twice with perfectly aligned paladins. Quite a bummer.

I've given up on converting to Kysul for this particular reason. Every character that I have played that worships him ends up unable to descend.

This one isn't an issue, just requires a spoiler - you need to be two character levels (total) above the level *to which you are trying to descend*, but this no longer applies once your character reaches level 11. Similarly, you may always descend to dungeon level 2.

Confirming this issue with the following save. Being level 5 does not allow this character to descend to level 3, as the last comment suggests should be possible. Currently, worship of Kysul seems to be unworkable until this is fixed.
